How to prepare for the Rogation of Asiago 2023
The Rogation of Asiago is an event open to all those who want to share it with us. It is good to know, however, that this is not a tourist event or a walk, but a journey of faith and a tradition to which our plateau is very attached, And it should be approached in that spirit.
If you decide to participate in the Great Rogation, as well as in every mountain hike, it is good to keep in mind some tips on how to prepare to face it.
How to dress and what to take with you
For every hike in the mountains it is advisable to have the appropriate clothing, remembering that you must be prepared to face all weather conditions, which sometimes on the mountains can be very variable with rapid transitions from clear to sudden wind and rain.
The Rogation also takes place in all weather conditions. It is therefore good to wear a pair of cotton or technical fabric trousers that protect from the air and at the same time maintain body temperature. The same goes for the t-shirt. Avoid synthetics, which do not let the skin breathe. To be preferred then smountain boots with a good non-slip shaped sole, rather than the highly recommended sneakers. On the feet also a nice pair of wool socks that cover the calf.
To bring with you both a sweatshirt or fleece and a windbreaker and a K-way to put in your backpack even if you start with the sun. In the mountains it is not unusual that in the morning you wake up with clear weather and the weather then changes in the afternoon with clouds and precipitation. Also appropriate a cap to protect the head from the sun, sunglasses, and if you have a particularly delicate skin even a sunscreen. And even if the Rogation is not a tourist event, a camera will allow you to immortalize a memory that you will carry with you for a long time.

How to organize with drinks and packed meal
First of all, it is essential to bring enough water with you to face the walk, but also a drink rich in mineral salts, to help in case of pressure drops due to fatigue and heat. Before departure we recommend having a rich breakfast of milk, biscuits or rusks with honey or jam and a fruit, to have enough energy to face the first part of the journey.
While waiting for lunch, avoid nibbling to avoid making the digestive effort coincide with physical effort. For lunch we advise you to bring with you energetic but light and easy to digest foods so as not to feel weighed down in the continuation of the walk. Well, for example, sandwiches with cheese or cold cuts (avoid sausages and mortadella that promote thirst), boiled eggs, fresh fruit, energy bars, rice or pasta salad.
How to prepare for Rogation
To face the Rogation you certainly do not need to be an athlete, but a minimum of preparation is still necessary. So just train first with some walking, having the foresight to already use the boots that you will use during the Rogation in order to get used to them and soften them.
Another excellent training system would be running, initially alternating with walking, to be done a couple of times a week to prepare muscles of the legs, heart and lungs.
Hoping to have provided you with some useful suggestions, we can only wish you a pleasant participation in the Great Rogation!
