On Friday, August 28, 2026, at 6:40 p.m., at the Palazzetto Polifunzionale di Canove, for the CuCuFestival, the International Street Art Festival promoted and coordinated by the Municipality of Roana, the Afuma company, from Togo, returns as the protagonist with the show "Edukikan (with a valiant heart)".
More than a simple circus performance, the one proposed by Afuma is an encounter with a tradition in which stilts, music and dance hold deep meanings. The artists move in height accompanied by the rhythm of the drums and the voice of the griot, a central figure of West African culture, custodian of stories, memory and knowledge handed down orally.
The company's name itself contains a significant metaphor: "Afuma" is an African fern-like plant that grows by adhering to trees without falling. Hence the reference to the stilt walker, capable of remaining suspended and balanced, while the stilt symbolically becomes a bridge between the earth, the ancestors and the present generations.
The company's presence at European festivals also helps to support a Togolese circus school, created with the aim of keeping this ancient practice alive and passing it on to the youngest.
The show will take place at the Palazzetto Polifunzionale in Canove even in case of bad weather.
