Before the advent of talkies, this film by John s. Robertson is the most famous film adaptation of the famous novel by Stevenson. Its importance lies in the portrayal of Barrymore-that decreed the success of public and critics-

The character of Jekyll is a progenitor of the horror film "extreme situations" that his destiny, and suggests writing good law even among the protagonists of a science fiction film through the developments a "sacrilegious" Science reflects on the limits of man and the drama of existence. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was a real tour de force for John Barrymore, committed by contract to divide between the film and the stage set for the performances of Richard III. The claimant gave evidence of great energy and flexibility, although then paid the price with a strong nervous breakdown.

Remarkable visual impact film, the tale was, of course, on the protagonist's transformation monstrous in his laboratory. The terrible Ingurgitata vial (established, they say, cold coffee and cream) Barrymore, as a good stage actor, he preferred to rely on their own talents and histrionic using cleverly intermittent convulsions of the character came to screen for traits riapparirvi transformed into the face, through a dental prosthesis hastily inserted between her lips, a scompigliamento of combing and so on , all made more impressive by a powerful facial expression. A crumpled hat, hair in disarray, to sharpen the top of skull and stretch your fingers, greasepaint to accentuate the look haunted and sharpen facial features, are the hallmarks of the mask of evil alter ego. Between scenes to remember the nightmare in which Jekyll believes he is attacked by a giant spider that has the head of Hyde. John s. Robertson, Canadian sources had been an actor for Vitagraph before turning to directing and know the success with this film.
