DARK NIGHT "LIGHTS OUT to see the stars" at the Astronomical Observatory of Asiago, March 10, 2016

"In your life I hope you at least one blackout in a clear night!"

Very attached to his land, theAsiago plateau, and its people, Mario Rigoni Stern with this sentence is reminiscent of a winter's night with a sky full of stars. "You were turned off all the lights and seemed to have stepped back fifty years, but not of seventy/eighty".

And it is in this spirit that, in Asiago (VI), ARPAV, with the regional observatory on light pollution, INAF -Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica and the Department of physics and astronomy at the University of Padua who run theObservatory of Asiago, proposed, with the crucial collaboration of Municipalities of Highland, a night of star-gazing in the absence of artificial illumination.

It will be a unique opportunity to perform scientific surveys, placed under an international search, in order to study the spread oflight pollution and quantify the impact of local plants on the brightness of the night sky.

After the success of 2014 of DARK NIGHT, Thursday, March 10, and in case of unfavourable weather conditions Friday, March 11, the scientific needs of the institutions it will match any minute of dissemination to citizens with observations of the sky at Pennar Asiago Observatory.

Municipalities ofAltopiano dei Sette Comuni, go out more than 5000 points of light , allowing public observation of the Firmament without the impact of light pollution.

We invite all citizens resident in the area and businesses turn off exterior lighting to allow optimum contemplation of heaven.

2016 DARK NIGHT PROGRAM at the ASIAGO OBSERVATORY

March 11 or 12 Pennar Asiago Observatory – 2016

5.00 Hours for the public (only in case of good weather):

• Observation of the sky, especially Saturn and breakfast with pastries, tea and coffee
  Duration: approximately 1.5-2 hours

Cost: 10 €, 8 € reduced

reservation required, starting from Tuesday, 8 March, by e-mail or from 10.00 to 12.00.
