Il pianista Edoardo BrottoThe pianist Edward Brotto in concert, music by Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Schumann and Liszt; the January 3, 2014 in Canove

TheRoan culture & Music Association inaugurates the season 2014 with an interesting Piano Concert, which will take place Friday, Jan. 3, in the Council Chamber in Canove at 21.00 hours.

The concert will be followed by a small reception and, as always, theentrance is free.

The protagonist of the evening the young pianist Edward Brotto, who intepreterà some of the most beautiful and virtuosic pages of Schumann, Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninoff.

You will start with a song, Arabeske op. 18composed by Robert Schumann in 1839, when he was 29 years old. In the autumn of 1838 Schumann had left Leipzig for Vienna. His relationship with his future wife, Clara Wieck, was strongly opposed by the father of the pianist, who is vehemently opposed to anything that could interfere with the music career of her daughter. Geographically but emotionally detached from Clara, Schumann was able to communicate with her only through letters and his music. This is a possible explanation for this job, which alternates between passages of melancholy and nostalgia with sturdier declaratory episodes.

Followed by a famous composition by Chopin, Scherzo No. 2, composed and published in 1837.
Arpeggio part harmonious tone, clear and engaging ("soul"), alternates to the more calm and reflective, sometimes dramatic ("supported").  At the end of the development of the central part by the character driven and restless, to the recovery of the initial theme follows a glorious finale.

The program will continue with a clever processing by Liszt of the Waltz of the opera Faust by Gounod, which recounts the first meeting of Faust and Gretchen, and dark intentions and demons of Mephistopheles against lovers.
Characterised by considerable technical difficulty, this work consists of three main sessions: Allegro molto vivace - poco meno mosso A (with grace), Andantino - Allegro vivace assai.

The Piano Sonata No. 2, op. 36 by Rachmaninov will conclude the evening. The work has three movements, Allegro agitato, Non allegro, Allegro molto has anextremely high technical difficulty.
The highly dramatic character is an integral part of the first two movements. Shaken and furious at times, the first movement alternates moments of hope and clarity to moments of intense desperation made evident by impetuous crescendi and cascades of notes. The final follows a troubled second movement, mysterious and dramatic, which eases the tensions created in first if not before the last section, a sort of recovery compares to deep calm after a storm. The third movement presents a character of great and heroic, an inner conflict resolution in the first two movements, composed of a continuous succession of climax leading to a finale in b-flat major.
