The big chill: looking for the "pole" of Italy on the Asiago plateau

Saturday January 21, 2017 Biosphaera Cooperative Association organizes an exclusive Guided snowshoe hike, looking for the extreme temperatures on the Asiago plateau.

The morphology of the territory in fact preseta plateau numerous sinkholes of karst topography, which lend themselves to the particular phenomenon ofthermal inversion: a consequent stratification of air masses gradually colder as you go down inside.

Through the skills and scientific information of friends of Triveneto Weather, during the excursion will be broadened the principle underpinning the phenomenon and you can experience for yourself the various tracking and data collection phases, as well as try to experience the extreme temperatures falling within these "air freeze Lakes".

Thanks to this scientific project has set a new record for lowest temperature ever recorded on Italian soil:-49.6° C recorded on 10 February 2013 at a resort of Pale di San Martino!

The absolute minimum temperature recorded at the site of Busa Verle was -31.6° C on 2/3/12.

THE EXCURSION PROGRAM

• 16.30 - Meeting at the Hotel Vezzana for subscribing, aperitif or warm drink, description of the project "sinkholes" by the datalogger and Crometeo Livade expert data download of Busa Verle. Route description and preparation for the hike.
  
• 17.30 -Departure excursion towards the monitoring site and return to the shelter. Total time 2 hours.
  
• 20.00 – dinner in shelter/hotel (optional and not included in the participation fee).

For this experience are required dress warm and waterproof technical hiking boots, warm gloves, winter cap and a bandana or scarf to cover the Airways.

In snowy ground conditions are required snow shoes and sticks, you can rent them on site at a cost of 8.
