50 years since landing on the moon, 500 years since the first round-the-world tour
What do Neil Armstrong and the Fijianshave in common, Pepper and J.F.Kennedy, the Moon andEasterIsland, the Tesla and MarianoRumor? Strange as it may seem, in these different realities, hides an illustrious citizen of the city of Vicenza: Antonio Pigafetta
Antonio Pigafetta
Antonio Pigafetta was an Italian navigator, geographer and writer.
He is best remembered for participating in the first circumnavigation of the globe from 1519 to 1522, and completing it after the killing of Captain Ferdinand Magellan, a great voyage of which Pigafetta left a detailed account. The report of the first trip around the world, whose manuscript in Italian was found, after being lost, by Carlo Amoretti in 1797, is now considered one of the most valuable documents on the great geographical discoveries of the sixteenth century.
