The Highland Guides offer the 'historical excursion on Mount Ortigara, Altopiano di Asiago, Saturday September 8, 2012.

The meeting is set to 8:30 at Piazzale dello Stadio del ghiaccio di Asiago.

Symbol of the cruelty of war on Mount Ortigara, also known as the "Calvary degli Alpini", still bears the signs of that tragic battle.

Ninety years later, roads, walkways, barracks stands, galleries and trenches stations allow us to read, as if it were yesterday, the clashes: Alpine battalions and bersaglieri battalions, infantry and burned in the cauldron of a strategic necessity that became a tactical nonsense.

Now only the murmur of the rain, the wind hissing or some Thunder thunderstorm remained the cacophony of orders, screams, blasts, gunshots, tears and cries that have shocked this small portion of the world, the last seen by so many people that came here from half of Europe, are no longer returned to their countries.

Remain here their souls which, as in the ancient legends, became thousands and thousands of beautiful flowers.
