Historical-naturalistic guided excursion through the trenches of the First World War

GOAL: Entrenchions of Monte Campolongo (Rubbio)

The itinerary starts a few kilometers from the town of Rubbio. Leaving Mount Caina on the right, we cross areas dedicated to meadow-pasture to enter a mixed forest rich in biodiversity.

Inside the woods we will be able to relive what life was like in the trenches during the Great War. In fact, we will walk along the walkways that arose after the defeat of Caporetto that will take us to the East Belvedere area. From here we will understand how strategic the Italian positions were to protect the Brenta Canal and watch over the Grappa, with a breathtaking view that from the northern area of the plateau takes us to the Euganean Hills, passing through the Val di Brenta and the Grappa Massif.

The proposed itinerary is characterized by the presence of mountain paths and dirt roads. A short part of the route will be carried out inside a restored trench dating back to the First World War.

DIFFICULTY: we assign a difficulty 3 on a scale from 1 (very easy) to 5 (challenging)

The route develops between mountain paths and dirt roads and paths. The difference in height uphill is less than 300m, there are partially exposed sections.

TO BRING WITH YOU: mountain boots, layered clothing, waterproof jacket, water for the duration of the excursion (at least 1 liter), possibly a small snack such as dried fruit, hat, sunscreen. 

COST: 15€ for the guided excursion. 5€ for children under 15 years
