VALERIO MASSIMO MANFREDI

Valerio Massimo Manfredi, Italian archaeologist and writer, after graduating in Classics at the University of Bologna has quickly entered the world ofarchaeology, specializing in topography of the ancient world at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan.

He taught in the same University from 1980 to 86 and then begin an intense academic career, first at the University of Venice (1987) and later at Loyola University of Chicago, at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes of the Sorbonne in Paris and at Bocconi University in Milan. During the 1970s and 1980s has designed and conducted expeditions Anabasis for reconstruction in the field of the route of the retreat of the ten thousand, but are numerous investments in excavations: Lavinium, Forum Gallorum, Forte Village in Italy. Prestigious those carried out on foreign soil and in Israel as Har Karkom reconnaissance and relief campaign with Timothy Mitford on the site of the "trophy of the ten thousand" in Eastern Anatolia (2002). He has held conferences and seminars in some of the most prestigious universities as New College, Oxford, University of California Los Angeles, keynote address at the National University of Canberra (Australia), also keynote University of Havana, Cuba, Universidad de Medellín (Colombia), Antioch, Universidad de Bilbao, Universidad Internacional Menendez Pelayo (Tenerife) and many others.

He has published numerous articles and essays in academic venue and wrote successful novels, translated worldwide (for a total of approximately twelve million copies internationally). Many awards: in 2003 appointed Commendatore della Repubblica "motu proprio" of President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, Rhegium Julii Prize Corrado Alvaro (2003) and Padua, Booksellers award in 2004 Hemingway Award for fiction, in 2008 the Bancarella Prize 2010 in Scanno. He is also the author of scripts and screenplays for film and television. His trilogy Alexandros was bought by Universal Pictures to film production and Dino De Laurentiis realized the last Legion (Ben Kingsley, Colin Firth, Aishwarya Rai, Thomas Sangster, directed by Doug Lefler). He also participated in the screenplay by September eleven 1687 inspired by the life of Marco D'aviano, directed by Renzo Martinelli.

Adapted for film memoirs of Hadrian by m. Yourcenar for John Boorman. Valerio Massimo Manfredi worked as a science journalist in various newspapers in Italy and abroad. He successfully led tv shows Stargate-linea di confine and Empire.
