MONTE FIOR : TRA GEOLOGY AND HISTORY, July 10, 2020

Guided excursions
Monte Fior - Guide Altopiano

Guided excursion with Filippo Menegatti - "Mount Fior, between geology and history" - GUIDE ALTOPIANO - Mountain Professionals

MONTE FIOR EXCURSION

Mount Fior and the Melettes of Foza during the Great War between 1916 and 1917 were in the "front line". In 1916 the first Battle of the Melettes and then in 1917 with the Battle of Arrest, the whole territory was the scene of bloody clashes. Today, however, peace and quiet reign, sheep and cattle graze, and the meadows are no longer battlefields, but lush huts.

The characteristic "Crowns of Rock" of admonitic red in contrast to the verdant pastures make the area unique. From Mount Fior 1824 m.s.l.m. we will enjoy an exceptional vantage point where our gaze can range to 360 degrees. To the west the Altopian conca with in the foreground Gallio, then Asiago, Camporovere, Canove, as well as a magnificent overview of the entire high area, Portule, Cima Larici, Cima XI and XII, Ortigara, Calidiera. On clear days you can see the Brenta group and the Lagorai chain. To the south the village of Foza, the Brenta Canal and at the bottom, as Emilio Lussu also wrote in "a year on the Plateau". Venice. Venice!
A little everywhere you can still see the remains and traces of the war event that between 1916 and 1918, shocked our countries and our mountains; now recovered and inserted into the project "Ecomuseo of the Vicentine Prealps"

WHO WE ARE - PLATEAU GUIDES
We "Highland Guides" are the first group of professional guides of the Plateau. We are local guides operating on the territory of the Plateau of the Seven Municipalities since 2008. The membership of the place by the members of the group ensures an intimate knowledge of the proposed goals and a deeply respectful approach to the environment and its history. Our passions for nature, history and sport have led us to choose a life path based on the study of the environment and local history. Graduates in scientific, tourist and sports subjects such as Forestry and Environmental Sciences, Natural Sciences and Motor Sciences we have also specialized in the historical field with courses recognized by the Province of Vicenza.  In order to be able to practice professionally, we are regularly enrolled in the professional registers of Environmental Naturalistic Guide (L.R. 33 of 2002 of Veneto), or Of Accompanying media Montagna (L.R. 23 July 2013, n.18).

READING THE DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY:

FACILE: The route takes place on forest roads, dirt roads or easy mulees always well indicated and without orientation problems in cases of fog or bad weather. The elevations are contained within 250-300 meters and the length of the route is within three hours. These are a bit of long walks that require a hiking sports shoe, not necessarily the pedula or boot.

FACILE/MEDIO: The route takes place on forest roads, dirt roads or easy mulees always well indicated. The elevations are contained within 250-300 meters and the length of the route is within 3 - 5 ORE. These are a bit of long walks that require a hiking sports shoe or boot.

AVERAGE: The route definitely exceeds three hours, it is more complex, it takes place on a trail with some challenging climbs or descent but can be overcome without the support of mountaineering equipment. The terrain can be disconnected or lack of signals. The maximum difference in altitude, however, remains within the 500 meters.

MEDIO/IMPEGNATIVE: The route definitely exceeds 5 hours, it is complex for the difference in altitude that can reach over 500 meters or for the length of walk up to 6 hours, it takes place on a trail with some challenging ascent or descent but can be overcome without the support of mountaineering equipment. The terrain can be disconnected or lack of signals.

IMPEGNATIVO: These itineraries require a lot of experience, training and physical strength from those who travel them. it is necessary to know how to move expertly even in dangerous terrain: gravels, steep slopes or steep stretches, thick scrub, high and unreferenced, passages in rock, absence of springs. The difficulty of the terrain and the distance from the points of support require total autonomy. Where indicated there may be a need to bring to the tow bivouac material such as the tent, bivouac bag, stove, food, requires training, energy and strong motivation.
