ON THE BRINK OF THE ABYSS
This volume was born with the intention of analyzing a little-known chapter in the history of the first world war on the plateau of the seven Municipalities. Mount Cornone, with the adjacent St. Francis and Red Rock are the mountains that delimit the far eastern edge of the plateau, overlooking the Val Brenta and the village of Budapest.
On these rocks suspended over the abyss, where it fell among others Francesco Caccia Dominioni, in particularly difficult conditions fought alpini, artillerymen, bersaglieri and Italian infantry soldiers belonging to the best departments that the Italian army could deploy in the last year of the war. Tactically, the sector was the joint hinge new Italian defensive line after the folding of Caporetto, link in the chain that connected the plateau and Grappa, to protect the Val Brenta, one of the possible routes of Austrian advance.
