1917

Corporals Schofield and Blake, from the 8th Battalion, share friendship and a sense of camaraderie. Their bond, in a short period of time, will be tested in a way neither could ever have imagined. Armed with maps, torches, rocket launcher guns, grenades and a few foodsters, they must cross No Man's Land and find Blake's older brother, a lieutenant from 2nd Devon. They have been ordered to head southeast until they reach the town of écoust, where they will have to locate the battalion in the Croisilles Forest, deliver a letter to Colonel Mackenzie from General Erinmore and thus save hundreds of comrades from safe death at the hands of the Germans. Few people know, and even Erinmore ignores it, that in reality the Germans have staged a strategic retreat and that in fact they are ready to annihilate anyone who dares to challenge them. This frightening and unexpected mission will change the course of their lives. A seemingly impossible task, a race against time. The two men must cross enemy territory to deliver a message that could save 1600 comrades. In this enveloping cinematic experience, Mendes catapults the audience into the danger and vastness of World War I, plunging them into the conflict. The film pays tribute not only to the soldiers of the First World War but to all the military, past and present, and to their sacrifice for the common good and the search for freedom.
