BOOK "OMISSIS- The right to defense between words and silences" - Agorà Factory

We find, among these pages, dozens and dozens of judicial events that, in the last thirty years, have scattered the reality of Vicenza with small and large dramas. But the author, in his narration, does not dwell on the chronicle, preferring to delve into the complex plots of the mind of those who, of those events, were the protagonists, sometimes as responsible, others as victims.

And for everyone there is participation and pathos, not just professional. There is, above all, the desire to restore dignity to those names through facts, of course, but more by digging into the experience that led them on that date, on that occasion, to find themselves faced with a destiny, a choice, which from people has transformed them into characters making them dress, from time to time, the clothes of the victim , or those of the executioner.

The author knows, and tells us, that the role of the lawyer is not to choose who to side with. His task is to fight on behalf of his client by trying to follow the course of truth.

But even in this periglious crossing emerges all the sensitivity of the man who covers the toga: attentive reader and narrator of the humanity that flows alongside him; he always participates in events, yet with disenchantment; with that irony veiled in pessimism that is diluted only when his gaze dwells on the humblest, on the comprimari, on the least.

FROM THE INTRODUCTORY NOTE BY RACHELE NICOLIN

«In the collective imagination the figure of the criminal lawyer has always been wrapped in

a dark charm. An attraction solicited mainly by two qualities considered innate and possessed indistinctly by all defenders: the fortitude to keep secrets even on the most atrocious facts committed by their clients and the ability to improvise arguments to effect to persuade colleagues and magistrates of the innocence of their client.

Imagination, however, is far from reality; clients rarely confess their guilt to their lawyer and just as rarely a brilliant defensive strategy is based on improvisation. (...)

This book gives the reader a journey in which he is accompanied to meet dozens and dozens of people very different from each other for nationality, culture, social background, lifestyle and each meeting reveals, without prejudice, the human fragility of those who for one reason or another are involved in a criminal process.

A journey that intrigues and helps to understand how the criminal lawyer is not an azzeccagarbugli ready to do anything to prove the innocence of his client, an ally of his clients, an actor in search of applause but a professional who carries on his shoulders, in addition to the toga, all the suffering of those who assist, while preserving their independence or defending the rights that belong to all , even to the worst criminal, without wanting to approve the illegal conduct or want to adhere to the reasons that led to commit it.
