Aperitif with author Marco Balzano and presentation of the book winner of the Mario Rigoni Stern Prize 2019

On Monday, July 29, 2019,on the occasion of the exhibition"Aperitif with theAuthor" organized by the Library Giunti at the AsiagoPoint, the author Marco Balzano will be in Asiago to present his book "Rest Here", winner of the 2019 Mario Rigoni Stern Prize for Multilingual Literature in theAlps.

Balzano's book managed to win the award named after the great Italian writer for the following motivation:

"In a long story, which is also a cross-section of history, the author reconstructs, with dense and fluid writing at the same time, a controversial and difficult page of South Tyrol's history. The water that submerges the village of Curon Venosta / Graun im Vinschgau in the far north of Italy is a metaphor for the political decisions of the fascist and Nazi regimes that overwhelm an entire community creating insanitary fractures in a family and social fabric that it will struggle for decades to rediscover a new cohesion. The author's explicit willingness to create a work of fiction, to which the chronicle provides the coordinates for a more intimate and personal story, makes the novel read with great participation and empathy".

The presentation will begin at 5.30pm, at the Central Stage located in Piazza II Risorgimento, and will be moderated by SergioFrigo.

In case of bad weather the meeting will be held at the Millepini Theatre

I REST HERE

The water has submerged everything: only the tip of the bell tower emerges from the lake. On the seabed are the remains of the village of Curon. We are in South Tyrol, a land of borders and lacerations: a place where not even the mother tongue is something that belongs to you to the full. When Mussolini bans German and even the names on the heads are changed, then, in order not to lose his identity, we just have to try to tell. Trina is a young mother who, to the wound of the community, adds her own: she constantly invokes the name of her daughter, who disappeared without a trace. Since then he has never stopped waiting for her, of writing them, in the hope that the words will give her back. Until the war comes knocking on the door of the house, and Trina follows her deserter husband to the mountains, where they both learn to live with death. Then the long post-war period, which brings no peace. And so, while the reader follows the story of this family and would like to reach out to Trina, he suddenly finds himself rushed to observe, day after day, the construction of the dam that will flood the houses and streets, the pains and illusions, the rebellion and the Solitude. A civil and up-to-date story, which captures from the very first page.
