Book presentation Literary Award winner Mario Rigoni Stern in Asiago-July 22, 2017

Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the Council Chamber of Asiago, will present the book "the way of Schenèr" by Matthew Melchiorre.

The book recently won the prestigious Premio Mario Rigoni Stern, clinching the victory tied with the artwork of Diego lions "vertical war".

"The way of Schenèr. A historical exploration in the Alps, "he says in the form of what you would call German documentary literature in the world the story of a border road that connected two towns very close – just 17 km separated Feltre from Primiero – yet belonging to very different worlds: that of Venice to the South and that with strong German roots to the North.

The meeting will begin at 17.30 hours and will be an opportunity to deepen their acquaintance of the author and his work.

THE SCHENER

Matthew Melchiorre is a historic balked. First, does everything possible to avoid that "orderly and systematic account of the major events» that for many, despite the development of historical science over the past five decades, is «history» tout court. And what's more, the mask and the posture of the historic seem to be bad on me: to read this wonderful book (wonderful because it brings up wonderful things common and everyday materials) you might mistake for a wanderer, a lover, a dreamer, a storyteller – or, as Dario Fo, a "Whopper".
In fact, under the dreamy pace of the narrative, the historical work of Melchiorre is broad, solid and accurate. And it is thanks to this very serious work, sornionamente told how the pastime of a wastrel, that page after page shows up to our imagination and our knowledge-old life of two communities: the town of Feltre, below, and the inhabitants of Primiero, above: United and separated by a step, the Schenèr – described, depending on who crossed it, as "stupendous" or "throat" horrid abyss "– which has always been the border and transit together , fortified place and umbilical cord. As already in the beautiful Requiem for a tree, Matthew Melchiorre here manages to meet not only our thirst for knowledge, but also the needs of sensitivity and imagination. Giulio Mozzi
