Saturday, July 15, 2017, at the Council Chamber of Asiago, will present the book "vertical war" by Diego Lions.

The book recently won the prestigious Premio Mario Rigoni Stern, clinching the victory tied with the work of Matthew Melchiorre "Schenèr's way".

The meeting will begin at 17.30 hours and will be an opportunity to deepen their acquaintance of the author and his work.

THE VERTICAL WAR

When, on May 24, 1915, opened the Italian-Austrian front, none of those who had theorized the mountain warfare could have imagined what it would be. Much less those who were just beginning to fight it. It was Blitzkrieg, or movement, was war of position: but on unknown territory, unfriendly, and that from there he gradually claimed his victims with the cold and avalanches. The armies had to contend with Nature: sublime, celebrated, enemy. Where you thought could act only small patrols, settled large masses of men, to live, had to drag at high altitude masses of animals, and a quantity of materials, machines and weapons hyperbolic; displaced populations and other militarizzarne; set up a parallel army of civilian workers and prisoners. The mountain warfare was many wars: mountaineering in the Dolomites in the Highlands, masses and glaciers, underground in all sectors, technological and knowledge-based society. Finally, there was that you autoregolava, overlapping and replacing Alpine one. The book by Leoni tells how everything could happen, how the military challenge had been heralded by the mountaineering and tourism since the second half of the nineteenth century; how they lived and told that experience the fighters, but also the prisoners, civilians; how changed relations between man and the environment.
