BOOK "THE CRY OF THE ROSE" - Garzanti

Turin, 1935. There are only a few weeks left before the release of the new issue of the mystery magazine"Saturnalia". Anita is intent on typing with great attention: she now loves her job, and not only because Sebastiano Satta Ascona, who dictates the translation of American stories full of shootings and catchphrases, is close to her. Very close to her.

At her desk Anita is even more focused than usual, even more immersed in those stories, because this time the protagonists are women: detective women, beautiful and fascinating, of course, but above all as good as their male colleagues. To Anita it seems like a dream. To her, who can't stand the restrictions of the fascist regime. To her, who postponed the wedding to work. To her, who reads forbidden books that talk about independence, freedom and equality. To her, who knows that what happens between pages cannot happen in reality.

In reality, very few women are free and have nothing to fear: the regime boasts of honoring them, of protecting even single mothers and prostitutes, but it takes little to realize that it is always and only males who really count, whether adult men or children, future soldiers of the Empire.

And so, when Gioia, a single mother, is found dead at the villa of her son's foster parents, for everyone it is just an accident: if she went looking for her, she was certainly trying to enter secretly. Anita does not know Gioia, but it does not matter: as for her detectives, a clue is enough to ignite her intuition. He must understand what really happened to Gioia, even at the cost of poking his nose in environments where a good girl and future bride would never set foot. Because justice can hide in the most unthinkable places: even between the pages of a book.

The new protagonist born from the sharp pen of Alice Basso has conquered everyone: the rankings of the best-selling books, the readers who are already fans of the ghostwriter Vani Sarca and the most authoritative press. Anita has entered the hearts of anyone who loves the power of books, mysterie-rich investigations and one-of-a-kind protagonists.

THE AUTHOR ALICE BASSO

Alice Basso was born in 1979 in Milan and now lives in a charming medieval village outside Turin. He works for several publishing houses. With Garzanti he published the adventures of the ghostwriter Vani Sarca: The unpredictable plan of the unnamed writer, Writing is a dangerous craft, Do not tell the writer, The mystery writer and A special case for the ghostwriter. In 2020, Il morso della viperawas released , the first chapter of a new series set in Italy in the thirties.

BOOK "A BEAUTIFUL JOKE - The cases of Marshal Ernesto Maccadò" - Garzanti

It would seem impossible, because the location is enviable, but even at the café of the Bellano pier it happens that for a whole day only a few small customers enter. Like Tuesday, March 5, 1935. To pull evening the innkeeper Gnazio Termoli has to invent them all, until he washes and re-washes already clean glasses. And then yawn at the entrance to the deserted bar.

Yet this is a date that he will not be able to forget, neither he nor the whole country. At the fall of the first shadows, in fact, a motorboat of the Border Militia docks at the pier from which three men completely dressed in black descend. One in front and the other two behind. Quick ways and a few words that inspire terror. Mute and petrified, Gnazio and the few other witnesses witness a scene that is incredible. After a few minutes the three soldiers, tucked into the tangle of the districts, reappear at the pier. Always in formation, but now among them, supported by the armpits and dragged like a dead weight, there is the poor master Fiorentino Crispini. Brutally loaded on board, the boat takes off in the direction of Como. And the Gnatius? As everyone knows, better to make your own facts, pretend that you have not seen anything and died there. But in this case... Master Crispini... How is this possible? On second thought, for some time the master no longer looked like him. He had missed several times, for example, the proverbial appointment with his marsalino, which Gnazio served him every morning. However, from there to imagine that he may have deserved such an arrest we pass.

The only solution: entrust the hot potato to the carabinieri. If you see marshal Ernesto Maccadò with those of the Militia. In short, understand what happened and, if you can, bring the Crispini home.

In Un bello scherzo Andrea Vitali launches a new challenge to Marshal Maccadò. If he thought that bellano could live quietly, now he will have something to think again. And readers with him will be able to find out how in the mildest and submissive spirits the temper of heroes is often hidden.
