On the morning of Saturday, July 1, 2017, Asiago will hold a Memorial Service to remember the fallen of the plateau in the July 1797-1809 franco-Jacobean repression.
On 9 April 1809, the plateau rose up against French impositions asking freedom and autonomy and refusing to pay taxes.
After an initial defeat, the French army regained control of the countries with a bloody crackdown that resulted in the trucidazione of over two thousand plateau's, mostly women, elderly and children. Only in Asiago were 70 people killed and their bodies exposed in the trees as a sign of defeat of the cimbri.
At 10.00 hours, from the Church of San Rocco will start the parade in memory of the fallen with the gang of Lusiana, Historical Reenactors the Pasque Veronesi, the cimbri group of Recoaro and a representation of the Militia of the seven municipalities, to reach the piazzale del Duomo, where willflag-raising ceremony and, at 10.30, celebrated the mass with readings in cimbro.
The parade then resume at 11.30, towards the Park of Rimebranza, with deposition of the laurel wreath and discourse of the authorities. At 12.00 we will move at the Regency Room for a little refreshment.
Following the commemoration, at the Teatro Petrarca, at 15.00 hours, will be held the .
