Saturday 23 September 2023 is an important date for Enego and for all those who care about the protection of the nature of the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni.
Five years after the devastating storm Vaia, which in 2018 felled 42 million trees in the Dolomites and the Venetian Prealps, the WOWnature organization, in collaboration with local citizens and companies, organizes a reforestation event to contribute to the regeneration of the area, accelerate the regrowth of forests and increase the resilience of forests to the spread of bark beetle, a dangerous pest that, by removing sap from spruces, is decimating them.
The event is open to the participation of anyone who wishes to contribute. All those who want to adopt or give a tree and participate in the planting will be welcome!
The meeting is scheduled for 10:45 am, and all participants will have the opportunity to personally plant the trees they have adopted or given away.
WOWnature was one of the first organizations to intervene in the field, immediately after storm Vaia. Since then, thanks also to the adoption of trees by citizens and companies, considerable progress has been made. The forest is gradually coming back to life, but there is still a lot of work to be done. The goal of this forestry project is to plant larches, firs and beeches, species that contribute to a more diverse ecosystem and therefore more resilient to any extreme weather events.
Planting a tree is not only a symbolic action, but an ecological and social imperative. In a historical period in which nature calls us to a collective responsibility, responding by planting a tree is a simple gesture, but of immense scope. A tree today represents a link with future generations, a heritage of biodiversity and a contribution to the fight against climate change.
