Photo courtesy of the Refuge. On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in Birmingham, Nadia Battocletti confirmed herself as European champion of the 5000 meters, winning her second consecutive continental title over the distance after the one obtained in Rome in 2024. To make the evening of Italian athletics even more special, Micol Majori's bronze also arrived, for a splendid Italian double on the podium.
But for the Plateau of the Seven Municipalities there is one more reason to smile.
In the interview given to Rai immediately after the victory, talking about the difficult path that led her to the European Championships in Birmingham, Battocletti wanted to thank the people who were close to her during the preparation. And among these he also expressly mentioned the Campolongo Cross-Country Ski Refuge, in Rotzo, thanking: "also the Campolongo Refuge with Riccardo and Ilaria who pampered me 100%".
A thank you that once again links the name of the Italian champion to the mountains of the Asiago Plateau Seven Municipalities, where Battocletti has chosen to prepare an important part of his season. Before the appointment in Birmingham, in fact, the athlete spent five weeks in training at the Campolongo Refuge, finding at an altitude of 1,550 meters an environment suitable for training, but evidently also that welcome and attention that she herself wanted to remember a few moments after winning the European gold.
The presence of Nadia Battocletti in Campolongo di Rotzo is nothing new. The Trentino champion has chosen the Plateau several times in recent years for her preparation periods: already in 2024 she had trained at the Campolongo Refuge in view of the Paris Olympics, while in 2025 she had returned to our mountains for a new training period.
A relationship, therefore, that has been consolidated over time and that makes the thanks pronounced in front of the Rai cameras even more significant after this important European victory.
In Birmingham, Battocletti arrived after difficult weeks and after the disappointment experienced at the Golden Gala in Rome. In the post-race interview she recounted an "uphill" and "troubled" approach to the European Championships, thanking her family, her staff and all the people who supported her. Then, finally, at the finish line of 5000 meters, disappointment gave way to joy.
And in that joy, this time, there is also a small piece of Campolongo and the Asiago Plateau. And we can only be happy about it.
