A dinosaur that lived over 115 million years ago was discovered on the Plateau

Friends, you know that we like to joke every now and then: it was an APRIL FOOL's joke! ;-)

An incredible discovery on the Asiago Plateau! 

At the melting of the snow, in one of the most inaccessible places in the area (a location that is currently kept secret to avoid the influx of onlookers and preserve the place) some fossilized bones of a large animal were found by a hiker. The discoverer, although not an expert, sensed that he was facing an important find and immediately reported it to the local authorities, who contacted paleontologists from the University of Padua.

Experts, after the first surveys on the spot, have confirmed that the bones could belong to a dinosaur never identified before, probably lived more than 115 million years ago during the Cretaceous.

From the first excavations carried out on the spot, which have already brought to light several vertebrae of the animal's neck, back and tail , as well as a large part of the skull, it would seem to be a new species belonging to the theropods, the group that also includes the better known tyrannosaurus.

Paleontologists who follow the very delicate extraction work, which will continue incessantly in the coming months and which is estimated to last over a year, are inclined to believe that it could be one of the most complete dinosaurs in the world.

The local authorities have already declared that they want to build a special museum pavilion to house the remains of the dinosaur, so that they remain on display in the area, without being taken elsewhere. In the hope that this is possible, we are anxiously awaiting updates on the "Giant of the Asiago Plateau", as paleontologists have nicknamed it.
