Cross Country Ski

Centro Fondo Campomulo - Cross country skiing: 4 - Track Ortigara

Track Ortigara
  • Difficulty: very Hard
  • Chilometri: 29,5
  • Time: 300 minutes
  • Difference: 570 meters

The Ortigara slope is undoubtedly the most beautiful track but also the most difficult of the Centro Fondo Campomulo. The route is particularly fascinating and evocative because it crosses beautiful landscapes and places of particular historical interest.

The departure is from the Campomulo Refuge. After a first stretch slightly uphill, you arrive at the Sella at an altitude of 1624 m above sea level, from here to Malga Fiaretta or Malga dei Sogni and then to a large clearing which is framed by the most famous peaks protagonists of the war episodes of the First World War.

After a short but rather steep climb and a long descent, you enter the woods of Monte Fiara and, with a very varied route, you reach Malga Boscosecco. Then continue climbing up to a junction at which you have to turn left (turning right you reconnect, instead, to the Moline track near Prà Campofilone) and follow a flat stretch that crosses the lush forest of Mitterwald until you reach, after about 2 km, the Fontanello di Boscosecco.

From here you climb and follow the Busa di Terre More and the Busa del Pettine until you reach the crossroads of Monte Forno, to which you have to turn left and climb up to the junction that is located at the head of Val Galmarara at an altitude of 1937 m above sea level, from which the view sweeps to embrace an exceptional panorama. At the junction turn right and after less than 1 km of ascent you reach the junction Italy at 1987m s.l.m. from which you head towards Monte Ortigara along Cima 11 and Cima 12.

After about 7 km you reach the summit of Ortigara, at an altitude of 2106 m above sea level, where there are memorial stones to the fallen of the Great War.
From here you descend towards Malga Moline for about 3 km, along a descent quite difficult and impossible to beat for snow groomers.

From Malga Moline you return to the base refuge "Campomulo" along the Moline slope. When it does not lead, however, it is better to return by retracing the outward journey backwards and, at the junction of Monte Forno, take Malga Moline, as described in the explanation of the route of the Valsugana track.
