Live webcam from Baita Monte Corno overlooking the cross-country trails and the Granezza road
This live webcam by Asiago.it, installed at the Baita Monte Corno, shows the starting point of the slopes of the Centro Fondo Monte Corno, a paradise for cross-country skiing lovers, who in the winter season can train, relax and have fun in the unspoiled nature of the mountain.
But that's not all! Right from here depart or pass also various paths for excursions and walks on which to walk both in summer and winter, to discover the nature and history of the Asiago plateau.
For example, with a short walk you can reach the Granezza Cemetery, one of the five English cemeteries of the Plateau, where 142 British fallen of the Great War are buried, including Edward Harold Brittain, brother of the English writer Vera Brittain. Continuing from here, heading north, you can also visit, among mixed forests of beech and spruce, a complex system of trenches that was placed to defend the north-western slopes of Monte Corno.
Returning to the Granezza road, you reach another point of interest: the Sacellum dedicated to the Partisans who died for the liberation of Italy from Nazi-Fascist rule in the years 1943-45.
In the opposite direction, always with a short walk, you can reach the top of Monte Corno (1383 m above sea level), one of the mountains that border the Asiago 7 Comuni plateau to the south, separating it from the plain. Here you will find the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, whose structure, with four intertwining concrete sails, was erected in 1970, in memory of the fallen in the partisan fights that took place during the Second World War.
On Monte Corno you can also visit the Alpine Botanical Garden, located on a stony-rocky promontory between two grazing areas, which has over 500 herbaceous, shrub and tree species belonging to the subalpine and mountain flora.
And still you can reach the suggestive and particular rock formations called "city of rock", a spectacular work of excavation by the water that, percolating on the red ammonite rocks , has created "corridors" between the large boulders. Here, between March and November 1918, British soldiers had set up a series of positions for cannons, machine guns and riflemen as the last bastion to protect the Venetian plain in the event of an Austro-Hungarian breakthrough along the Barental.
Also in the area you can also see the marble quarries.
This area of the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni is therefore an ideal destination for beautiful skiing in the woods, nature trips and interesting excursions, among which we recommend:
1 - Hike on Monte Corno
2 - Itinerary excursion from Osteria Fontanella to Monte Corno
3 - Itinerary for excursion from Monte Corno to Malga Camporossignolo
4 - The path of the Partisans: from Malga Pian di Granezza to Monte Mazze
