"A timeless art the kitchen and its traditions in old prints from the 16th to the 19th century"-Asiago Prisons Museum
The opening of the exhibition, whose term had been initially set on March 5, was extended until 1 may 2017.
From December 10, 2016 al May 1, 2017 at the Prison Museum, the municipal administration of Asiago, Department of tourism and culture, in collaboration with Claudio Carter of Bottega delle Arti Antique di Padova and the Association Proloco Asiago and stones, offers an exhibition dedicated to the kitchen and its traditions in the representation of engraving.
Like painting, this art proves to be sensitive to local traditions and the culinary habits of the native lands of master engravers and this exhibition focuses the relevant role of the food and its depiction in old prints from the 16th to the 19th century.
The choice of about two hundred prints on display, selected for their rarity and unique curiosity, is based on a criteria mainly refer to the leitmotiv is the iconographic: food, its preparation and "to eat".
The arrangement takes advantage of the structure of the Museum – former prison used as exhibition venue – to create several thematic sections, housed within the cells of the ground floor and first floor. The visitor will be guided on a path that seeks to assert that "food is art", an art passed down from generation to generation, in cultivation, fishing, livestock, viticulture, and that through the artistic is perpetuated in time, keeping alive the memory of past traditions, tastes and flavors.
The exhibition opens with the allegories of the months and seasons to evoke those habits of distant eras now on which still relies international cuisine, accompanied by the most widespread trades that distinguish this world depicted in some of the most celebrated engraving series, those by Annibale Carracci and Gaetano Zompini.
A second section features the dinner tables, they find ample space inside the Gospel episodes of thelast supper or of the wedding at Cana, or in depictions of more popular. The latter theme is dedicated to two different sections, one more moved Northern life interpretation at osteria through numerous engraving taken from paintings by Tenier, another set in Italian context, particularly veneto, which depicts engravings of Giovanni Volpato, Jeff Carroll, Francesco del Pedro gender taste fresh and familiar scenes.
The exhibition closes with two sections one at a discipline of hunting, the other to those prints that, with scientific precision but with unquestionable beauty and technique, are species of animals and plants.
The importance of this exhibition lies not only in the familiarity of the proposed theme, especially in the possibility to admire a selection so accurate of original etchings, presented for their beauty and uniqueness.
During the winter months of the opening of the exhibition events of various kinds: guided tours of the exhibition, children's workshops, aperitifs at the Museum with meetings on specific topics about food and cooking, winter guided walks in and around Asiago with stages of tasting of typical products, dinners and aperitifs by the plateau's Restaurateurs and finally theelegant gala dinner in the exclusive setting of the Museum the prisons by the hotel management school in Asiago.
