PATH FEATURES

Among the seven gentle mobility routes proposed and curated by the Municipality of Enego, the Stone Path is perhaps the most special one for the peculiar features of the sites it crosses.

The route leads to the discovery of the Val di Zante,a wild environment but of great charm, always exploited for theextraction of limestone stones. The name "Zante" derives not coincidently from the word "zant", which means "sand".
Walking along this fascinating valley, you can then admire the places from where the stonescame from, hand-extracted, used for the construction of the cathedral and then for the new bell tower.

Climbing up the narrow Val di Zante, the route then opens onto the gentle and sunny hill of the Bìsele (from the cimbro"bis"i.e."lawn"and"el",diminutive suffix, then"Bìs-el"small meadow, meadow), to later cross lecca resorts and finally return to Enego.

If walked entirely, the Stone Trail is medium-difficult,but for less experienced walkers it also features an easier variation. The latter is definitely more suitable for families and those who practice running, while the average variant is perfect for fans of trekking, nordic-walking and trail running.

Signs

Along the Stone Path are several signs marking the path. Some have QR-Codes to be framed with their smartphone in order to listen to the audio guide and discover other details and curiosities about the places crossed.

HOW TO GET TO THE STARTING POINT

Theroute of the Stone Trail starts and arrives from the center of Enego,on thePlateau of the Seven Municipalities,in the province of Vicenza.

The center is easily accessible by carfrom Asiago, taking Provincial Road 76 and following the directions to Enego. The road runs through several resorts, including the centers of Gallio and Foza, the famous Valgadena Bridge, and the distinctive hamlet of Stoner.

If you arrive from Valsugana, you must instead take the SP76 Valgadena to thePrimolano-Asiago-Enego exit and then follow the directions to Enego.

DESCRIPTION OF THE DOLCE FURNITURE ROUTE "STONE PATH

The Stone Path begins at the foot of St. Justin's Cathedral.
From here, walk north along Via G. Marconi and then abandon it at the Trattoria "Da Lao",where you have to take a small lane, onthe left, which leads to Via Madonnina.

Then continue on the main road until you reach the intersection with the Valdel Zante and the road that, downhill, leads to the sports facilities and back to the center (Via Zante). it is the latter that you have to take if you wantto continue for the easyvariant and return to the country.
If you want to try your hand at climbing the beautiful Val di Zante and then walk the average variant,at the intersection you have to follow the dirt road that rises from the valley floor.

Later, the forest on a white road will become a real path, sometimes even steep: you continue to follow it to enter the fascinating Eneghese valley and discover the places once used as quarries for the extraction of limestonestones.
Step by step, you will have the impression of reliving the ancient times, when the tireless quarrymen hand-extracted large boulders from the rock, and then transported them – with great effort – to the center of the village with the typical"snìssule"(sleds). Here the skilled stonemasons thought to give them a square shape, so that they could then be used in the construction of the buildings: a real art form that was a source of pride, so much so that the artisans often competed to those who made the most precise block and sculpted their signature on the best pieces.

Continue to follow the trail to the top of the valley and then take the forest road that, downhill, leads to the Bìsele. If you're feeling lucky, before you go down try searching for the famous crooked larch that is located along Lissarella's"gràbo",among whose roots – says the legend – the Bandit Bano,or the "Robin Hood of Enego", hid a treasure trove of golden seams, which no one has ever found...

After the treasure hunt, you can proceed on the way back by following the forest to the Bìsele col, where you can admire the remains of an ancient farmhouse.

From here, always on dirt road, descend to Lecche resorts (from the cimbro"lakka","mud, slush") and finally in the center of Enego.
