PATH FEATURES

it is an itinerary full of curiosities and fascinating places that of the Trail of the Fort, which runs some of the places linked to the ancient history ofEnego.

The trail leads to visit the fort Stella, located in Coldarco and dating back to the First World War. Excavated entirely in the rock, it is a gallery of about 60/70 m that features 5 side galleries overlooking the Valsugana, four of which are armed with 75A pieces. Along with other fortresses - including the nearby Forte Lisser - the Stella fort was part of the Brenta-Cismon barrage,a defensive system built by the Italians for the defense ofValsugana.

But the Trail of the Fort does not only trace the places of the Great War: the route passes through the two oldest selciate routes in the country, the Piovega di Sopra and the Piovega di Sotto (from the Latin " PublicStreet"), once used for the transport of timber, goods and animals; it also crosses ancient abandoned districts, with stone houses and drywalls, where it seems that time has magically stopped.

Overall, theitinerary is easy and can be walked by families,as well as by trekking enthusiasts and trail running. It also lends itself well to nordic-walking.

Signs

Along the Fort Trail you will find several signs marking the route, some equipped with QR-Code: frame them with your smartphone to be able to listen to the audio guide and discover other details and curiosities about the places of Enego.

HOW TO GET TO THE STARTING POINT

Theroute of the Fort Trail starts from the center of Enego,on theAsiago Plateau Seven Municipalities. Being aloop route, the arrival also reaches the center of the village.

To get to Enego from Asiago, simply follow Provincial Road 76,which will take you through several locations, including the municipalities of Gallio and Foza, before arriving at Enego.

Those arriving from Valsugana will also be able to reach Enego by taking the SP76 Valgadena: they will have to do so, however, by taking thePrimolano-Asiago-Enego exit and then following the directions to the center of the country.

DESCRIPTION OF THE DOLCE FURNITURE ROUTE "PATH OF THE SENSES"

The Fort Trail starts from the center of Enego, precisely from St. Mark's Square. From here, past the Cathedral of Santa Giustina, first you will have to proceed north, walking first via G.Marconi and then Via Rossa Italiana, until you reach the eponymous colony.

At this point you will have to get around the structure from the east, along the paved road that, shortly after, will become white road and then path. You will then continue to follow the trail until you come out on the dirt road that, downhill, will take you to the first houses of Coldarco di Sopra.

Curious to know that the name Coldarco probably comes from thehuge stone arch, visible from the Valsugana, on which rests the contrada: hence "glue of the arch" and"coldarco".

From Coldarco di Sopra you will have to descend, following a mule track,to Coldarco di Mezzo, then continuing until you cross a dirt road.
Here you'll have to take a short detour to reach the Coldarco Fort, also known as the Star Fortress.

Arriving near the war opera, you will first notice the remains of the barracks that housed the soldiers during the First World War.
You will then have to descend into the trench that connects the barracks to the fort to reach the tunnel.

The gallery that makes up the Fortino Stella is about 60/70 meters long and has five side openings overlooking the Valsugana, one with observatory function and the other four armed with 75A pieces.
Along with the Cut of the Staircase, the fort Tombion, Fort Leone, Fort Lan and Fort Lisser, the Coldarco Fort was part of the Brenta-Cismon Barra,a defensive system that was tasked with blocking access to Eastern Valsugana in the event of an enemy attack.

Sentiero del Forte Enego

Take the right time to visit the fort, read the information panels, reflect and address a thought to the young soldiers who lost their lives in these places during the Great War, not to forget.

Load of strong emotions, get out of the gallery and get back on your feet. You will now have to follow the white road, with a pleasant descent, until you cross the paved road that leads to the Massareggi,at the provincial road.

You will have to follow it on the left until you meet the track of the Piovega di Sopra, which you will take on the right to reach the Middle Pitscontrada.

This selciata mule track, which followed the even older track of the Correggio, begins at the Primolano and Salt junction, with 4480 steps,on the Plateau. It was built mainly to transport downstream the timber from Marcesina, even the longest trunks: the track does not have too tight curves.

Once you reach the Middle Fosses, you will have to take the other ancient selciata route in the area, namely the Piovega di Sotto which, with a last ascent, will take you back to the center of Enego.

Sentiero del Forte Enego

Like the first, this street is also flint, but due to its particular shape, with hairpin bends and drywalls used for overcoming rocky jumps, the Piovega di Sotto was used to transport downstream mainly firewood, lime, coal, goods and animals, never long logs.
The mule of the Piovega di Sotto currently starts near the Cornale and, with as many as 5680 steps (some of which have been lost in time or cemented) reaches Enego, passing through the districts of Fosse di Sotto, Middle Pits and Over Pits.
Probably, the route traces an ancient route of Roman times, which was used to bring the flocks into the pastures and to transport the materials necessary for the construction of the castle of Bastia.

The Piovega di Sotto will soon take you back to the center of Enego, where you can enjoy a well-deserved break, thinking back to the exciting journey in the Eneghese history just experienced: from the ancient Romans, to the First World War.
