PATH FEATURES

Certainly the most "historic" of Enego's seven gentle mobility routes, the Path of Accounts is a fascinating itinerary that leads to the discovery of a piece of the country's ancient history.

In particular, reached Caselloresort, just before arriving in Frizzon, you will admire a stone border stump dated 1752,which marked the entrance into the possessions of the Accounts of Wolkenstein of the Castel Ivano of Borgo Valsugana.
The story that this stump evokes is that of the eternal border disputes between the Municipality of Enego and the Accounts of Wolkenstein, but also those between the Enegani and the Grignati,to know the origin of which we need to go back hundreds of years.

In short, the Path of Counts will make you take a real dive into the past, recalling stories of conflicting peoples and legends of men who heroically fought for their Land, and taking you to stroll through the ruins of ancient buildings for the collection of tithes and the remains of ancient toll booths for the control of smuggling.

The Path of The Accounts does not present any particular difficulties and, although it is the longest of Enego's gentle mobility itineraries,it is suitable for everyone, perfect for a walk with the family, but also for those who practice trekking, Nordic-walking and trail running.

Signs

Several signs mark the path along the Path of Accounts. Some have QR-Codes to be framed with their smartphone in order to listen to the audio guide and discover other details and curiosities about Enego's places.

HOW TO GET TO THE STARTING POINT

Theroute of the Path of The Accounts starts from the center of Enego,on thePlateau of the Seven Municipalities.

You can reach Enego by car from Asiago, taking provincial road 76 and following the directions to the country. On the way, you will cross several locations, including the centers of Gallio and Foza.

For those arriving from Valsugana, you can take the SP76 Valgadena by taking thePrimolano-Asiago-Enego exit. The directions will then drive to the center of Enego, where the route begins.

DESCRIPTION OF THE DOLCE FURNITURE ROUTE "PATH OF THE COUNTS

The Path of The Accounts starts from the center of Enego, precisely from St. Mark's Square. From here, proceed north, crossing first via G.Marconi and then Via Rossa Italiana, until you reach the colony of the same name.

At this point you have to get around the structure from the east, along the paved road that, shortly after, will become white road and then path. So continue to follow the trail until you come out on the dirt road that, downhill, will take you to the first houses of Coldarco di Sopra.

Curious to know that the name Coldarco probably comes from thehuge stone arch, visible from the Valsugana, on which rests the contrada: hence "glue of the arch" and"coldarco".
In this contrada, you can visit the ancient fountain with dry stone walls and covered with the characteristics "stoanplatten", a cimbro term used to indicate the large stone slabs used once throughout the highland territory.

Continue the journey by taking the mule track that leads uphill to Casello, where you will cross the paved road from Enego, at the border stump No. 4 dating back to 1752 and the remains of an ancient tollbooth of finance.

The stump you see is the fourth of the ten carved stones that bounded the private possessions of the Accounts of Wolkenstein and is one of the many testimonies of the struggles between the City of Enego and the Accounts to win the territory of Frizzon.
The story began when, by transmission by a Countess Baroaldi (a noble Vicentine who entered the family as a bride), the Counts Baroni of Wolkenstein,Lords of Ivano, received the right to exote the tithing on the cultivated territories of the mountain of Frizzon. Under the guise of enforcing their right, however, the accounts immediately tried to seize them in full, resulting in a dispute that lasted for years.
The border struggles, which overlapped with those between Grigno and Enego for the Plain of Marcesina, continued even after Rovereto's first judgment of 1606 and after 1751,when at the behest of Maria Theresa of Austria and the Doge Piero Grimani gathered in the city of Trentino a second commission for the final adjustment of the borders, which confirmed the border line of Marcesina and assigned Mount Frizzon to the accounts of Ivano.
It was on that occasion, that in 1752 the famous cippi were placed to delimit the territories of the Empire and the Republic of Venice, including the cippo of resort Casello, which attested to the private ownership of the Counts of Wolkenstein in Vicentine territory.
As mentioned above, judgments and slings still failed to stop disputes and border fights, which continued with alternating fortunes.

From this point, you can now continue your way to the right along the main road, which will take you with a slight ascent to the Frizzoncontrada, also known as the"little Marcesina". Once out of the woods, here you will be greeted with spectacular scenery, with a beautiful little church surrounded by green meadows.
Take a relaxing break in this little Paradise before heading back!

Relax and regenerate, return for a moment on your steps, until you meet a crossroads, where you have to take the old road of Frizzon.
Here, too, you will relive history: the road passes through Knights Houses and for what could be the remains of the house built by the Accounts for the collection of tithes.

Then continue first on a white road and then along the path until you find the main road,at the locality Làita (from the cimbro "slope, declivo").
Follow the main road for a couple of kilometers, downhill, and you'll soon be back at Enego.
